SUMMER 2024 SEASON

The Wheaton Municipal Band Announces its 2024 Summer Season. Under the direction of Dr. Bruce Moss, the WMB is recognized as one of the finest community bands in the country. The WMB performed at the prestigious MidWest Band Clinic at McCormick Place in December 2023. In its unprecedented 3rd performance at the International Clinic, the Wheaton Municipal Band was joined by trumpet players from the Chicago Symphony, Esteban Batilian and John Hagstrom, Major Ryan Nowlin, the President’s Own Marine Band director and vocalist, Master Gunnery Sergeant Kevin Bennear.

Summer concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in beautiful Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Avenue in downtown Wheaton. (with the exception of one performance at Edman Chapel)

Thursday, June 6 | Generation Celebration
The season opener recognizes the many generations involved with The Wheaton Municipal Band. A special composition, written by Robert Sheldon, was commissioned to recognize the dedication of three band members: Carol Kierzcy (40 years), Mike Thorsen (50 years) and Al Loek (60 years). In addition, students from the Wheaton Middle Schools will perform with the WMB on two compositions, one by Wheaton composer Tim Loest and the second by 8th grader Lilian Alarcon.

Thursday, June 13 | Bugs!
A night of music that shares the stage with the melodies of the 17-year cicadas.

Thursday, June 20 | Take Three
The band shares selections from the historic third performance at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic performed at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Thursday, June 27 | Romancing and Dancing
Dr. Marcellus Brown, Director of Bands Emeritus at Boise State University conducts the WMB in a night of memorable favorites.

Tuesday, July 2 | Patriotic Spectacular
One of the most popular concerts that celebrates the 4th of July holiday.

Thursday, July 11 | Legends!
Conductor Ray Cramer, Director of Bands Emeritus at Indiana University joins legendary composer, Julie Giroux, to conduct an exciting program.

Thursday, July 18 | “All the Earth and Air”
A special feature of the evening is a performance of Tyler Grant’s new composition “All the Earth and Air” written in recognition of Dr. Bruce Moss’ 30-year tenure at Bowling Green State University. In addition, celebrating the 100th birthdays of Henry Mancini and film star Eva Marie Saint.

Thursday, July 25 | A Night of Favorites
Selected by the audience, conductor and musicians, the concert is sure to please.

Saturday, July 27 | Happy Anniversary
Members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the “President’s Own Marine Band” join Dr. Bruce Moss to celebrate his 45th anniversary as conductor of the Wheaton Municipal Band.

Thursday, August 1 | It Takes Three
Three conductors from the University of Illinois join the WMB for its season finale. Dr. Bruce Moss shares the podium with Dr. Kevin Geraldi, Director of the University of Illinois Bands, Dr. Linda Moorhouse, Director of the University of Illinois School of Music, and Professor Gary Smith, Director Emeritus of the University of Illinois Marching Illini.
